14.01.2013 - Panel discussion "Turning the world upside down: how to grow in times of stagnation?"

In January Erste Group hosted a panel discussion on the topic "Turning the world upside down: how to grow in times of stagnation?". Three CEE entrepreneurs, a banker and a global business consultant debated on finding the right solution for growth in times of stagflation: going global, staying local or taking a mixed approach. While the Hungarian IT company Prezi and the Czech IT company Futurelytics looked for venture capital in the US, thereby also gaining access to know-how and an excellent network, the Polish cosmetics company Inglot has undertaken a completely debt-free expansion worldwide over the past 12 years. Nenad Pacek, leading expert on doing business in emerging markets, explains that it will take time for CEE brands to make a name for themselves globally. Andreas Treichl, CEO of Erste Group, believes that the next two to three years will show whether there is a new financial industry developing outside the present regulatory environment that banks operate in.

18.01.2010 - Diskussion

"How does supply and demand work in socialism? You buy what is available and persuade yourself you need it."

In January, Erste Group held a panel discussion on the subject "Twenty years after – the future of capitalism in CEE“. Representants of four industries – banking (Andreas Treichl, CEO Erste Group), consumer goods (Janusz Kulik, board member REWE International), automotive (Jacques Chauvet, Senior Vicepresident Renault) and media (Adrian Sarbu, CEO Central European Media Enterprises) – discussed the transformation of CEE after 1989, the impact of the financial crisis, the region’s prospects and its growth potential. A 6 min movie shows the main statements of the speakers. The event was accompanied by a mini-exhibition with four corners dedicated to four of the needs that impact people’s everyday life: the way people dress (clothing), the things they eat (food), how they get their information (media) or the way they bank (financing). A 6 min movie shows pastpresent paradigm, contrasting life under communism with the transition period until today.
