US President Donald Trump has imposed 20% tariffs on EU exports, announcing much-vaunted "reciprocal tariffs" on trading partners that have sent shockwaves throughout the global economy.

The EU has unveiled the ReArm Europe plan, which aims to significantly increase investment in defence capabilities in the EU.

The EU annual inflation was 2.7% in February 2025, down from 2.8% in January. A year earlier, the rate was 2.8%.

The EU will give carmakers three years to meet CO2 emissions targets originally set for this year. Emission limits for 2035 (the end of sales of cars with combustion engines) remain in place.

In 2024, the EU exported 5.4 million cars and imported 4.0 million cars. Compared with 2019, the number of exported cars dropped by 13.2% while the number of imported cars decreased by 3.0%.
