As was widely expected, the ECB Governing Council decided today to lower the deposit rate (and the other two key interest rates) by a further 25 basis points to 2.0%.
Today's statements by President Lagarde confirm our assessment that the ECB has reached the temporary end of the current cycle of interest rate cuts with today's decision. As long as the ECB does not see clear signs of a sustained economic slowdown, it is unlikely to lower its key interest rates further.
