New SSK branch in Mattighofen awarded klimaaktiv GOLD certificate
In March 2024, Salzburger Sparkasse opened its new branch in Mattighofen, which has now been awarded the klimaaktiv GOLD certificate for its outstanding energy efficiency and sustainable construction. This underlines our commitment to environmentally friendly investments and energy-efficient planning.
Historic townhouse meets state-of-the-art standards
Our goal is to create sustainable locations in all renovation and new construction projects. The general renovation of the Mattighofen branch is a prime example of this.
The high energy technology standards are particularly noteworthy:
- The cooling and heating systems are powered by existing groundwater and a heat exchanger.
- A large photovoltaic system covers the majority of the electricity needs.
- In addition, the facades were extensively insulated, the roof was replaced, and high-quality wood-aluminum windows with thermal and sound-insulating glazing were installed.

TechBar at Erste Campus
For several months now, the TechBar at Erste Campus has provided a central point of contact for all employees who need support with computers, accessories and cell phones.
As property management, we played a key role in this project and transformed the standard home base area into a functional one-stop store space. We were responsible for the concept, planning, procurement and execution. Together with Erste Digital, we defined the processes and logistics required for the new space. We were responsible for cost, resource and construction scheduling as well as managing and tracking the costs of the contractors. The close exchange with the user and the involvement of the stakeholders led to the success of the project. Implementation took less than six months and included acceptance of the equipment and handover to Erste Digital.

Rebranding - Spectacular logo swap at the Perron
Since August 7, 2024, the platform with the new Sparkasse logo has been attracting attention in Salzburg's city center.
After a long period of planning, the old logo was replaced with a new, modern design using a mobile crane. The challenges were not only at height, but also underground. The railroad tracks of the main station run directly beneath and next to the Perron business quarter, which made the planning and implementation of the project a real balancing act. Station operations could not be restricted. Every movement of the crane had to be precisely coordinated to ensure the safety and stability of the building and the subsoil.

Expansion of the e-charging station infrastructure at Erste Campus: faster and easier charging of electric vehicles
Together with our partner Global Payments, we have expanded and simplified the EV charging infrastructure in the car park at Erste Campus. In addition to the existing 34 charging stations, 40 new ones with 22 kW each and 3 Powerchargers with 50 kW each were added. During the expansion of the charging infrastructure, a dynamic load management system was set up to control the amount of energy available for the charging stations. This meant that it was not necessary to expand the transformer station or increase the peak load.
The conversion and expansion of the charging infrastructure supports Erste Group's sustainability goals as part of its environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles. A big thank you to the property management for their commitment.

Probably the smallest self-service branch in Austria opened in Rum
Our smallest location - the Rum self-service branch - has been in operation since Friday, November 17. It is located just a few meters from our former location at Rathausplatz 1 and offers our customers a self-service experience with its finger on the pulse.
After 10 days of renovation and relocation, our Rum self-service branch has a new home. With an area of just 6.85 m², the location lives up to its reputation as "probably the smallest branch in Austria". Whether making deposits or withdrawals, account statements or transfers - our customers will find two modern self-service machines in the new premises, enabling them to handle almost all aspects of their financial lives. The branch is located in the listed town hall of the market town of Rum and can be accessed barrier-free via the entrance on the west side of the building. Like all our self-service locations, the Rum branch is open from Monday to Sunday between 5 a.m. and midnight.

EBOe Wiedner Hauptstraße branch receives klimaaktiv award
The renovation of our branch in Wieden is a showcase project: our "silver" location is one of the 56 sustainable projects in Vienna. CO2 emissions are also generated by our daily operations: for example, we supply our locations with energy, travel to work or on business trips and purchase goods and services. Wolf Lindner and Gerhard Pohl told us how we are reducing these emissions at our stores.
Among the award-winning Viennese buildings in 2023
The renovation roadmap for the branch in Wieden has paid off: our "silver" location was presented to a specialist audience at a symposium organized by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection (BMK) as part of its klimaaktiv and Austria Green Planet Building (AGPB) initiatives, as well as by the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNB). The awards for the 56 Viennese projects and the five international showcase examples were presented at a high-profile event attended by more than 300 experts from the construction and real estate industry.
The store was renovated architecturally, thermally and technically, which was a challenging task:
- Due to the historic façade, highly efficient interior insulation was applied.
- The box-type windows were replaced on the inside with modern wooden windows with 3-pane insulating glass.
- External, electrically controllable sun protection was fitted to the windows on the upper floor.
- The ventilation and cooling system was renewed and equipped with heat recovery.
- The lighting was converted to energy-efficient LED technology.
- The central heating of the office unit will in future run on district heating instead of gas.
This makes 781 points out of a possible 1000 in the klimaaktiv assessment.
All stores designed to be climate-active by 2030
With the help of a long-term plan, we are converting all stores by 2030, taking into account the klimaaktiv criteria catalog. We have already converted around 50% of the existing branch network, meeting a minimum standard in terms of sustainability, reducing energy consumption and improving building physics. The Purkersdorf and Hütteldorf branches, which are currently being renovated, will be completed in 2024. The renovation of the Gersthof branch is also planned. As things stand, Gold status can only be achieved for new buildings. The new "Vienna Twenty Two" location (completion at the end of 2025) is expected to achieve Gold status.
About klimaaktiv
Klimaaktiv is a climate protection initiative of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology. With the development and provision of quality standards, the training and further education of professionals, advice, information and a large partner network, klimaaktiv complements climate protection subsidies and regulations. Our bank branches are assessed according to the klimaaktiv criteria and visibly labeled for our customers. Three quality levels - bronze, silver and gold - can be achieved.
