
Erste Bank & Sparkassen are backing Blue Code for mobile payments

The company Secure Payment Technologies continues its expansion course with its free payment app Blue Code. As the first Austria-wide banking group, Erste Bank und Sparkassen has recently been won over to employing the new mobile payment solution. The network of retailers is becoming denser as well: From July onward, Blue Code will be accepted in more than 600 BIPA retail outlets. With that there exist more than 2,100 points of acceptance for people paying with smart phones in Austria. The integration of Apple watch into the Blue Code payment process is unique in Austria.
Partnership with Erste Bank und Sparkassen
Blue Code meets George. With immediate effect, Erste Bank und Sparkassen are offering payment via smart phone. As clients of the first Austria-wide banking partner, customers of Sparkassen Group are able to use Blue Code for payment in more than 2,100 retail outlets all over Austria. The technology is easily activated, by downloading the Blue Code app and activating it online directly through George or netbanking. This links the app up with one's current account. Thereafter is it immediately possible to pay at selected merchants via smart phone. Due to the online interface, the availability of funds in the customer's account can be verified directly, similar to payments by card. Users thus have payment limits analogous to those of their bank card at their disposal. “For us this is another step toward offering brand-new and innovative payment methods to our customers”, says Petra Postl, head of Channel Development at Erste Bank. After entering a 4 or 6 digit PIN code, a barcode is generated directly on the smart phone and remains valid for a maximum of four minutes and a single payment transaction. At the cash register, the barcode is scanned and the payment is immediately settled.

BIPA expands network of acceptance points
Blue Code has moreover won another strong partner for its mobile payment solution in REWE International AG. Beginning in July 2015, BIPA will also accept payment via smart phone with Blue Code. With that, the number of locations accepting Blue Code in Austria increases to more than 2,100. “We are very happy that we were able to win BIPA, the market leader in the drugstore retail sector in Austria, as a partner for our mobile payment solution. With that we are taking another important step in our expansion strategy”, says Michael Suitner, managing director of Secure Payment Technologies. The market launch at BIPA will be accompanied by a prize competition. Every customer who pays with Blue Code at BIPA, BILLA or MERKUR during the entry period from 9.7.2015 to 9.8.2015 will take part in a draw for three iPhones 6 and three iPads.
Blue Code empowerment for Apple watch
Technologically Blue Code is also a trailblazer in Austria. In order to make payments even simpler, it is now also possible to effect Blue Code transactions via an Apple watch. “With this Secure Payment Technologies is the first company in Austria offering a functional payment solution for the Apple watch. As of now, Blue Code transforms one's watch into a wallet as well”, says Christian Pirkner, chairman of BC Capital AG and investment partner at Secure Payment Technologies.
