ADMIRABEL is a mobile betting office that encourages people to place creative bets with alternative stakes. Aside from using money, participants were challenged to consider what bets they could offer their neighbours and what could be offered in return. During ten festival days an empty space served as a temporary betting office.
Jury statement
“This project distinguishes itself through a very good conceptual approach, which was implemented using creative means in an excellent way. The design of the process, creating a decelerated situation, and moderating negotiations with or between the betting partners in particular reveal a playful and equally well thought-out and artistically finely designed process. Without moralizing, the designers guide the audience and create incentives to act as emphatically as possible. Due to the likelihood of confusion with the actual, commercially active betting office (Admiral) and in places in which it is typical, the
project succeeds in reaching a broad audience and raising awareness on the subject.”

DRAWING PUBLIC SPACE

Using coloured tapes, a large-scale pattern of graphic symbols was created in the middle of the focus district, Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. Lines, tiles, and paths were designed to inspire people to roam through public spaces and stimulate spontaneous interaction in the neighbourhood.
Jury statement
“With great commitment and the help of volunteers, an extremely precise project was realised in public areas. And despite the calibre of planning and implementation of the architecture and graphic design, it still remained accessible. In fact, audiences found it especially inviting, which resulted in many encounters and great participation beyond any language barriers. In any case, “Drawing Public Space” fundamentally changed the appearance and perception of the Schwendermarkt (a popular market in Vienna’s 15th
district) during the festival.”
