Erste Bank und Sparkasse wins The Banker’s “Bank of the Year” award for Austria

  • Award recognizes leading role in Austrian banking market
  • Fourth time Erste Bank und Sparkasse has won The Banker’s award

Erste Bank und Sparkasse was recognized as the “Bank of the Year 2021” in Austria by The Banker at an awards ceremony held at the start of December. This year marks the fourth time that Erste Bank und Sparkasse has received this accolade from the distinguished finance industry publication, following wins in 2009, 2010 and 2014.

"The banking business has been changing rapidly in recent years. Our customers’ needs and expectations, negative interest rates, digitalization, Covid-19 and, above all, the issue of sustainability and climate protection: all of these are driving us to positively surprise customers through our services and products. For Erste Bank und Sparkasse, providing personal advice and providing digital advice are not mutually exclusive approaches. And that is exactly what we will continue to offer in the future. That is why we will also continue to invest - in ensuring we can offer more time for our customers, in the training of our advisors, in digitization and in further roll-out of up-to-date and sustainable branches at which we can advise customers on how to develop their prosperity and improve their financial health," explains Gerda Holzinger-Burgstaller, CEO of Erste Bank Oesterreich AG.

Published by the London-based Financial Times Group, The Banker is a monthly magazine specializing in the financial sector and whose awards and rankings are recognized benchmarks in the international banking industry. Its “Bank of the Year” distinctions are awarded annually by a jury consisting of The Banker’s editorial team. The jury selected its winners from among hundreds of submissions that addressed banks’ efforts and accomplishments with regard to strategic initiatives, technologies, products and services, as well as their responses to the Covid-19 crisis.
