Isabella Frey appointed as new co-Managing Director at George Labs
Isabella Frey has joined the most senior leadership ranks at George Labs: she assumed her role as the new co-managing director of Erste Group’s inhouse fintech unit on July 1. Frey has been a driving force in developing the George app, the mobile interface of Erste’s banking platform George since 2012. She is now be part of the two-person management team at George Labs, together with fellow Managing Director Stefan Häbich.
In her new role, Isabella Frey reports to Erste Group's Chief Platform Officer, Maurizio Poletto. She has taken over the role previously held by Martin Kobza, who was appointed as COO on the Management Board of Erste Group’s banking subsidiary in Czechia, Česká spořitelna, this past November.
“Isabella has been at the very heart of George’s development from the very beginning. She knows all the in’s and out’s of the platform and its features – but equally importantly, she knows the George spirit and the George people,” says Maurizio Poletto, Chief Platform Officer at Erste Group.
“For the future, I see George taking on the role as your financial brain – helping you as an individual, as well as your business, to stay financially healthy,” Isabella Frey outlines the strategic priorities for her new appointment. “Simply adding loads of new features to George won’t make certain that we’ll be able continue our success story. That’s why I understand my role as preparing a vision for the next chapter of George, one in which George’s insights, ease-of-use and applicability develop even further. That will ensure that George provides an even greater positive impact on all our users’ financial health and continues to play a key role in the success of our banks across the region.”
Isabella Frey joined Erste Group in 2012 as Head of the George app. Most recently, she served as the Chief Product Officer for George and was in charge of the strategic product direction for the banking platform in both the retail and corporate segments. Frey, who holds a Business degree from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) and studied Computer Science at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), has been active as a lecturer at different universities across Austria.
