Mathias Frey appointed new Managing Director of Erste Digital

Mathias Frey has extensive experience spanning more than two decades in the IT sector, both within and outside the banking industry, including ten years in various roles at Erste Group. Thus, from 2014 to 2018, Mathias Frey served as Technical Project Lead for the “George” internet banking platform in the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia. Since 2021, he has focused on platform architecture, data and artificial intelligence within Erste Group. Most recently, in November 2024, he took up the position of Chief Engineering Technology Officer (CETO) at Erste Digital.

Mathias Frey, 44, who was born in the Austrian Waldviertel region, thus joins the Managing Board of Erste Digital alongside Christoph Kohlbach, succeeding Ekkehard Preis, who will be leaving the company on 31 July 2026 to take up a new professional challenge outside Erste Group.
