BCR and Erste Group provide EUR 132 million in financing for Scatec's 77 MW Urleasca wind farm in Romania

Banca Comercială Română and Erste Group are financing the construction of the 77 MW Urleasca onshore wind farm with EUR 132 million. The project is developed by Scatec ASA, one of the leading global developers of renewable energy projects. Of the total financing, BCR is contributing EUR 76 million.

This transaction reinforces BCR's position as the leading banking partner for energy projects in Romania. In the first half of 2026 alone, the bank provided a total of EUR 450 million in financing to the sector, of which more than EUR 362 million went to renewable energy projects, broken down as follows:

  • EUR 288 million for wind farms;
  • EUR 41 million for solar capacity;
  • EUR 33 million for battery energy storage investments.

Urleasca is the second financing BCR has provided for Scatec's projects in Romania, following the EUR 42.5 million for the 190 MW Dobrun and Sadova solar portfolio in Dolj and Olt counties.

With financing secured, the Urleasca project now enters the construction phase. It is supported by a Contract-for-Difference (CfD) covering approximately 57% of expected production, with the remainder to be sold on the Romanian wholesale power market.

With multiple renewable projects now under construction, we are building scale in a market with strong fundamentals and significant potential. Urleasca is Scatec's first onshore wind project in Europe and diversifies the company's generation profile in Romania, complementing the 190 MW solar portfolio currently under construction. The project supports an optimised portfolio of onshore wind, solar and battery storage that captures value across CfDs, corporate PPAs and the wholesale market, at a time when renewable penetration and power market volatility are both increasing.

Scatec holds a 100% ownership stake in the project. OX2 will manage construction through to commissioning under a Construction and Asset Transfer Agreement, while Scatec will provide operations and maintenance and asset management services following commissioning. The commercial operations date is targeted for the second half of 2028.

The Urleasca wind farm is in Brăila county, approximately 150 kilometres north-east of Bucharest, and will be equipped with 11 Nordex N175/6.X turbines.
