Global Equities | ESG Profiles 3Q24

Global Equity Report , 30. Dec
Summary of the methodology of the ESG scoring model and the ESG profiles, statistics on greenhouse gas emissions Scope 1 in 2023 vs. 2022 and the results of the 3Q24 ESG profiles in the global equity coverage.

Objective and Reasoning: This publication provides information on the environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) characteristics of the companies included in the global equity coverage of Erste Group Research. The ESG profiles are compiled on a purely quantitative basis. The profiles are updated quarterly. In order to be able to compare individual companies in terms of their ESG characteristics, we have always evaluated the companies in relation to all other companies in the same sector. This approach to evaluating how well a company performs relative to its competitors in the sector is comparable to fundamental equity analysis.

ESG Reporting Requirements: An EU Commission directive stipulates the obligation to report on sustainability aspects. The aim is to increase the accountability of European companies with regard to sustainability aspects. The European standards for sustainability reporting must be complied with. In the USA, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has drawn up reporting requirements for climate-related risks. These regulations are now the subject of litigation between government agencies, companies and other plaintiffs. Given the uncertainty, the SEC has issued a stay order until the litigation is resolved.

Calculation Methodology: The constituents of the Erste Global 1000 Index are used as the basis for determining the relative ESG attractiveness of a company in a sector. The assessment of a company's ESG characteristics is based on the criteria that we consider most relevant for the environmental, social and governance aspects.
